WMMAG's Animal Rescue Charity Run30th November 2002 Words and pictures by Steve.
Ok, so I know it was cold, and it had been raining that morning, and we're getting close to Xmas, but what a
lousy turnout! I was under the impression that bikers were a sturdy bunch, not put off by a bit of drizzle and
a nip in the air - obviously I was mistaken! Around 20 people braved the elements for the mammoth voyage from Bromsgrove
to Bridgnorth (all 20 miles of it).
At least the run had no problems hanging together, despite Stourbridge's best attempts
with roadworks, heavy traffic, and the delight that is the Ring Road. Despite the heavier rain in the morning, it kept pretty
dry while the run was on. The Stourbridge - Bridgnorth road was almost enjoyable - we must remember to go back when the roads are dry so
we can truly appreciate just how scary those surprise bends are!
The Charity Run was in aid:
Greyhound Rescue are in dire need of people to foster or sponsor their dogs - thousands of greyhounds are bred every year,
and only around 10% are any good at racing, so the rest all get abandoned or abused. You can sponsor a greyhound for just
£12 a year - this contributes to their upkeep and medical bills.
As well as all the generous donations made by people attending the run, the following businesses also made
much appreciated donations:
As the turn-out was so poor, everyone gets a picture of their bike on this one. It's certainly a mixed bag -
think we've got most forms of powered 2-wheeled transport represented.
