Burton MAG Xmas Disco

22nd December 2001

When is a disco not a disco?

When people get funny about trivial things like entertainments licenses. After their first disco, Burton MAG had found out the pub hadn't got an entertainments license that covers a disco - they could have had a disco, as long as no one danced, sang or talked! You've got to love the archaic laws of this fine country we live in!

None of this made any real difference - Burton MAG just filled the jukebox with their own eclectic collection of CD's, and carried on. They also dropped the ticket price on the door - bit of a surprise to be handed money back! Another nice touch was a free drink given out at the door - Asti-spumante may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it gives you something to get started on while you're getting served at the bar.

A cracking buffet was also laid on, including deserts. Wolfie even delivered a whole chocolate gateaux to our table, which Mick, Scott and myself managed to make short work of.

The raffle had some decent prizes donated to it - a Xmas hamper, several bottles of spirits. Out of the BCMAG people in attendance, Nigel, Mick and me all came away with prizes, despite Scott buying more tickets than anyone else!

Silly games

Once everyone was suitably lubricated, the silly games kicked off. It comprised of blindfolding two teams of six people, then attaching animal mask to each person, so there was an elephant, gorilla, giraffe, snake, chicken and sheep on each team. Each person then had to find their "mate" on the opposing team, only making the noise of their respective animal. Unfortunately, no one had a clue what sort of noise a giraffe makes! Impossible to tell who won this, or even what the criteria was for winning, but everyone got a good laugh out of it.

The Verdict:

Everyone seemed to have a good time, and the lack of a disco didn't seem to dampen anyones spirits. Top marks to Burton MAG for laying on a really good event - I'm looking forward to these lot putting on a rally.

p.s. if anyone knows what noise a giraffe makes, please get in touch!
