Coventry Festival of Motoring; Coventry Historic Vehicle run 2007
Volunteer Marshals needed.
Have a great day out and support NABD as well.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust are organising the Coventry Historic Vehicle run again this year and I am organising the volunteers to marshal the event on the morning of Sunday 2nd September 2007. The run is part of the Coventry Festival of Motoring which takes place over the Saturday and Sunday with over 500 old vehicles taking part.
The run takes place from the War Memorial Park in Earlsdon, Coventry and winds its way around the surrounding countryside eventually ending back at the park where a full dayís line-up of events takes place.
Over 500 vehicles take part, from early 1900ís to later years the cars, motorcycles and other vehicles make a magnificent sight. The local inhabitants usually make a colourful backdrop to the run, lining the streets and waving flags, or having picnics by the more picturesque sections of the routes. In fact some whole villages get into the mood by hanging bunting and flags etc.
As marshals our job is to make sure that the entrants keep to the well signposted route with the minimum of problems. Last year all the marshals thoroughly enjoyed themselves and spent the remainder of the day wandering around the various stalls and watching the events that are on the site.
Marshals will need to gather about 09:30 and the run will start at 10:30 with all the old vehicles filing out of the park to run the 60 mile route that meandered its way around the countryside passing through some remarkable villages and locations. This year each marshal will be given a section or junction to control, so we need many more marshals to take in the whole route. The marshalís job will be to point the participants in the right direction and make sure they donít get lost. Itís as simple and as easy as that. In return you will get a ringside seat to see all the magnificent old vehicles, from cars and motorcycles to lorries and custom jobs. All the paperwork you need will be supplied along with reflective jackets (although you are welcome to bring your own if you have one). Last year the weather was fantastic and it really was a great day out. In fact all the marshals who did the route last year are returning for more this year, so it must be good.
The other great thing is that you will be helping to raise funds for the NABD. The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust will make a donation to the NABD in return for the marshalling of the route.
If you are interested in marshalling this event then please e-mail me or PM me to register your interest. I can supply more details as they become available.
